With the emphasis the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) places on modeling, Modeling With Mathematics:  A Bridge to Algebra II (Bridge 2e) addresses these modeling requirements while helping prepare students for success in Algebra II.  Intended for students who have taken Algebra I and Geometry but who are not yet ready for Algebra II, this program helps solidify their understanding by providing a different kind of learning experience.  With Bridge 2e students model real-world applications with a functions approach netting a deeper grasp of the important concepts necessary for success in Algebra II and on the forthcoming Common Core assessments.

Modeling with Mathematics: A Bridge to Algebra II by Nancy Crisler; Gary Simundza; Region IV Educational Service Center; COMAP - Second Edition, 2013 from Macmillan Student Store

Enhanced Content
While Bridge 2e continues with the goal of helping students succeed in Algebra II, the new edition has several enhancements.  Linearity and linear models form the algebraic core of the first part of the text, followed by systems, exponential and quadratic functions. Geometry-related chapters are interspersed, with chapters on data analysis, probability, and finance also included.  Although highly contextual, the mathematics has been made more transparent in the second edition, as is evidenced by the Table of Contents and the lists of objectives and key vocabulary in each end-of-chapter review.  This transparency makes for easier correlation with state-specific standards and the new Common Core State Standards.

5E Instructional Model
The components of the 5E model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate) form the backbone of the text and are pointed out in each chapter of the Annotated Teacher's Edition.

Four Types of Lessons
Each chapter is divided into well-paced lesson that make teaching and learning from the book easier, they are: Activities (group experimentation or data collection); Investigations (group exploration of a concept using pencil and paper); Regular Lessons (direct teaching of math concepts); and Review and Practice (R.A.P.) (skill review exercises for topics taught previously). The various types of lessons help engage students through hands-on learning, and reflect upon and practice what they have learned through integrated exercises that facilitate connections between past and future learning.

Skills Review Appendix
A set of 16 short appendices that provide a short review, with exercises, of key math skills on which students frequently need a refresher.

Stepped-out Examples
Highlighted examples offer detailed, annotated solutions making it easier for students to learn, teachers to teach, and parents to help facilitate their child's learning.

Annotated Teacher's Edition
With a wrap-around design and two pages of notes prior to each chapter, the ATE helps teachers prepare daily lesson plans for each chapter as these notes contain the objectives of the lesson, prerequisite skills, new vocabulary, a lesson description, teaching tips, and answers to the questions and exercises for the lesson.
